US Open QF: Can Daniela make it the oldest semi-final line-up ever?

Match focus:

Flavia Pennetta vs. Roberta Vinci

One of these 2 Italians will make their Grand Slam semi-final debut here in Flushing Meadows. If Vinci wins this, she will make her top 10 debut after a long career. If Flavia wins, it will be her first semi-final appearance here after 3 previous quarter-final showings. Tough one to pick as Pennetta looks fatigued and was helped massively by the rain delay. Vinci looks to be in better form, but Pennetta is better on US hardcourts. These 2 haven't met since 2010 and has split their 8 meetings. It's really a coin toss here but I hope Pennetta gets through. She deserves it after so many near misses in the past.

Pick: Pennetta in 3 sets

Daniela Hantuchova vs. Victoria Azarenka

Azarenka has mastered the way of winning ugly. Despite playing lackluster tennis, she edged Ivanovic in an error littered match. Will she be penalized for her poor form against the experience Slovak? Daniela has nothing to lose and will just swing freely. However, look for Daniela to tighten up when she is leading. I believe Victoria will be eager to show that she's capable of much more and will turn in a clean performance for this match.

Pick: Azarenka in 2 sets
