A+: Petra Kvitova
I don't think anyone on tour could have survive Kvitova in the final match. Just flawless hitting from the Czech.
A: Venus Williams
Strange to give such a high grade to a 3rd round loser, but she was the closest to defeating Kvitova. Venus went toe to toe with the champion and was 2 points away from victory.
A-: Eugenie Bouchard
Young star was humbled by Kvitova in the finals, but has a lot to be proud of for her first slam final appearance.
B+: Simona Halep
Seems like the only dependable player on tour. Unfortunate injury in her semi-final, but would have been destroyed by Kvitova anyway.
B: Lucie Safarova
Finally advances to her first slam semi-finals after years on tour. Let's see if she can build on this momentum.
B-: Barbora Zahlavova Strycova
Drop shot queen of the tournament, scoring upset wins over Wozniacki and Li Na. Also showing signs of maturity as she's not as animated as before.
C+: Sabine Lisicki
Didn't go all the way to the final this year, but still manages to reach the quarter-finals despite an absolute horrendous year. Now see her fade back into obscurity.
C: Tereza Smitkova
Who? Another Czech who took most of an open draw to reach the last 16. One to watch in the future.
C-: Maria Sharapova
Didn't handle the pressure of being the favourite well, faltered badly against Kerber. Grass is quickly becoming her worst surface.
D: Agnieszka Radwanska
Expected her to make things difficult for Makarova, but just went down meekly. Looks like she'll never win a major.
E: Li Na
Her split with Carlos Rodriguez definitely was a contributing factor, but her weakness was fully exploited by Barbora. At her age, it remains to be seen if she has the motivation to bounce back.
F: Serena Williams
Maybe F is too harsh for Serena, but she came into the tournament all serious and eager to prove the detractors wrong. However, she was just missing for the past 2 slams. Will Serena get back on her feet? Or is there something wrong with her health given that she withdrew under mystifying circumstances?

Wimbledon scorecard: GOATra makes rare appearance
Saturday, 7 June 2014
Roland Garros scorecard: Queen of clay, Sharapova
A+: Maria Sharapova
Playing clutch tennis through her last 4 matches, Sharapova showed she had the best mental game on the women's tour despite not playing her best.
A: Simona Halep
Very decent showing from Halep given that this is her first slam final appearance. Definitely a future slam winner.
A-: Eugenie Bouchard
Not a fan of her attitude off court, but Eugenie has some serious game. If only she can mature off court, WTA will have another player to market.
B+: Andrea Petkovic
First slam semi-finals in her career made even sweeter given that she almost retired after her injury. Still, might have a Dementieva career. almost there but never reaching it.
B: Garbine Muguruza
What a showing from the Spaniard, displaying consistent power-hitting, and almost ousting 2 former champions. Clinical in her disposal of Serena Williams.
B-: Carla Suarez Navarro
Nobody can call her a mental giant. Wasted a perfect opportunity to make her first slam semi-finals by choking away leads in the sets that she lost. Needs a sports psychiatrist now.
C+: Pauline Parmentier
French wildcard captured the home crowd's imagination with her inspired play. She has the game, but just no faith in executing it. Hopefully this will give her the confidence to play well for the rest of the year.
C: Kiki Bertens
Out of nowhere, came through from qualifying all the way to the 4th round. Was always a competent player let down by her lack of focus. This run will give her the boost needed to get back on the main tour.
C-: Petra Kvitova
Well, she lost to a better clay court player. However, she fought very hard and almost had the win. Still, losing to Svetlana in a tight match isn't a good sign.
D: Agnieszka Radwanska
A strange and uninspired performance from the Pole. Wasted a perfect opportunity to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.
E: Serena Williams
She was outplayed and out hit by Garbine, who just couldn't miss. Normally, Serena would have fought her heart out, but a flat performance gave her her earliest exit in a slam after her infamous flop against Razzano.
F: Li Na
No excuses for the Chinese. Precisely what she said, she would have lost to anyone who was standing across the net. Horrific performance.

Rome report card: Serena back on top
A+: Serena Williams
She has won Roland Garros the last 2 times she won Rome. A sign of things to come?
A: Ana Ivanovic
The only player to take a set off Serena. Did very well in ousting Sharapova. A dark horse in Paris.
A-: Sara Errani
A petite fighter who plays with all her heart, Pity her game will never get her the elusive big title.
B+: Jelena Jankovic
Her lack of net skills has been thoroughly exposed by Errani. However, a good week here as she beat Radwanska, who she hasn't beaten in a while.
B: Carla Suarez Navarro
Showed what's she capable of on clay against Ana, but faltered at the crucial point again.
B-: Agnieszka Radwanska
Continues her best clay season so far by reach at least the quarter-finals
C+: Li Na
How can Li beat Stosur (who she has never beaten before) and lose to Errani (who she has never lost before) back to back? Baffling performance from the world number 2.
C: Francesca Schiavone
Showed that she still has some tennis left in her by winning 2 matches here.
C-: Maria Sharapova
Awful performance considering she's riding on a 12 match winning streak. Nevertheless, she has nothing to be ashamed of for her clay court season so far.
D: Sloane Stephens
Not the first time she has disappointed, but she went down meekly without much resistance to Lepchenko. Expected more out of her.
E: Angelique Kerber
No wins in clay yet. Worrying for the German number 1.
F: Petra Kvitova
Yet another mystifying loss to Zhang Shuai. God help this woman.

Rome QF: Resurgence of Ivanovic
Sara Errani vs. Li Na
Li Na exorcised her demons against Stosur by claiming her first career win over the Australian. With Stosur out of her way, Li's passage is much easier now. She faces Errani, who will be fiercely supported by the home crowd. A lot is on Errani's shoulders, being the last Italian in the draw. However, Sara's form hasn't been magnificient lately, so I don't expect Li to experience much trouble.
Pick: Li in 2 sets
Serena Williams vs. Zhang Shuai
Let's be honest. The only reason Zhang Shuai is here in the quarters is due to the horrific collapse of Kvitova. The Czech seemed to have forgotten to play tennis and paid a heavy price for her early exit. On clay, Zhang has no chance against Serena. Unless something catastrophic happens to the American, Seren'a going to breeze through this.
Pick: Williams in 2 easy sets
Carla Suarez Navarro vs. Ana Ivanovic
Jankovic is quietly making her way through the draw. She has the potential to be the dark horse, having won here before. The Serbian obviously enjoys the clay in Rome, but she will be tested by Radwanska, who is playing the best clay court tennis of her career. On clay, I believe Jankovic has the edge. Radwanska will need to play very smart tennis to disrupt Jankovic's rhythm. If Jelena gets on a roll, it's difficult to stop her.
Pick: Jankovic in 3 sets

Carla Suarez Navarro vs. Ana Ivanovic
Another player who got over her demons is Ana Ivanovic. The Serbian beat Sharapova for the first time in 7 years, and in the process, snapping the Russian's 12 match winning streak. This marks the resurgence of Ana, who is looking to repeat her 2008 form where she captured the title in Paris. Ana is a confidence player, so with her confidence now sky high, Carla is in trouble. I'm not saying that the Spaniard doesn't have a chance, but Ana's game is tough to handle when she's blasting balls all over the court.

Rome day 4: Rematch of Stuttgart final
Schedule of play:
http://www.wtatennis.com/schedule/tournamentId/643/title/internazionali-bnl-ditalia
Match focus:
Ana Ivanovic vs. Maria Sharapova
Stuttgart's final came early as these 2 clash again in the 3rd round. Ana took a set off Maria in Stuttgart, but Sharapova steadied the ship and won the match eventually. Will Ana finish the job this time? It's a tough task for the Serbian as Sharapova is playing the best clay court tennis on tour now. 11 matches on this surface so far and undefeated. Still, I think Ana can make this match interesting, but she will falter when it matters.
Pick: Sharapova in 3 sets
Samantha Stosur vs. Li Na
Li Na meets her nemesis Samantha Stosur, who she has never beaten before in 6 meetings. Looks like Stosur will extend the winning streak against the Chinese here on her preferred surface. Stosur's game is unique, so it's either you can handle her spins, or you can't. Sharapova has mastered Stosur's game, while players like Cibulkova and Li just cannot handle the Aussie's quirky game. I don't know what else Li can do except hope that Stosur has an off day.
Pick: Stosur in 2 sets
Francesca Schiavone vs. Agnieszka Radwanska
After a wildly fluctuating year, Schiavone finally gets her act together in Rome, her home country. She will be lifted by the Italian crowd that's for sure, but it will take a lot more to overcome the crafty Radwanska. Agnieszka has been playing the best clay court tennis of her career so far, reaching the latter stages of the red clay tournaments. I don't think she's that susceptible to early exits on clay anymore. That said, Schiavone can bank on her superior clay court experience to mix things up. If she can unsettle the calm Pole, she can have another huge upset. Still think Agnieszka's too steady to be rattled though.
Pick: Radwanska in 2 tight sets
Sure win bets: Serena Williams, Sara Errani, Agnieszka Radwanska
Upset alert: Zhang Shuai, Li Na, Jelena Jankovic

Madrid scorecard: Claypova rules
A+: Maria Sharapova
No more jokes about being a cow on ice. Best performing active player on clay with this win.
A: Simona Halep
The final loss breaks her streak of 7 straight titles in 7 appearances, but shows that she has what it takes to be in the top 5.
A-: Agnieszka Radwanska
Clay is not her preferred surface, but fought hard to reach the semi-finals.
B+: Caroline Garcia
So close to upsetting Radwanska, but the future is infinitely bright for Garcia.
B: Li Na
Her matches with Sharapova are always dreadful to watch, but she's the one who was closest to beating her.
B-: Ana Ivanovic
Close to replicating her form in 2008, and will almost definitely make her return back into the top 10.
C+: Serena Williams
Unfortunate thigh injury prevents her from a 3-peat. Still think she's one of the top favourites in Roland Garros.
C: Samantha Stosur
Brushed off her horrid loss with a good run here. Stopped by her nemesis Sharapova as usual.
C-: Roberta Vinci
Wins consecutive matches for a change. Hopefully this signals a return to form.
D: Angelique Kerber
Forgettable tournament here as she quits against Garcia. Would have lost anyway.
E: Svetlana Kuznetsova
No one except Kuznetsova can choke a lead like she does. Baffling loss here (and last week).
F: Andrea Petkovic
Green clay success does not equate to red clay success.

Madrid QF: Top 4 seeds to go through?
Serena Williams vs. Petra Kvitova
Serena Williams will face her first big test in this tournament against the volatile Kvitova. Petra has been pretty decent for this tournament, but she has not yet shown her peak form yet. You'll never know which Kvitova will show up, but against Serena, I think a meek Petra will play. Serena's aura intimidates even Kvitova, judging by their past meetings. If the Czech is firing from all cylinders, she might take a set. But a win for Serena should be coming.
Pick: Williams in 2 sets
Maria Sharapova vs. Li Na
Sharapova is hanging onto her top 10 ranking like she's hanging on for dear life. That's why I believe the Russian is at an advantage her. Maria's mental strength is up there among the best, and against the iffy Li, she will summon all her strength for the win. Their last meeting on clay was a messy affair in Rome, where Sharapova prevailed in 3 sets. I don't expect anything different here. A match riddled with huge momentum swings and high amount of errors should be in store.
Pick: Sharapova in 3 sets
Simona Halep vs. Ana Ivanovic
The admirable thing about Simona is her ability to learn from her mistakes. Losing the first set to Lisicki, she turned it around and stopped doing what wasn't working, and edged out a win. She will definitely have a lot to prove here against Ivanovic, who beat her in Fed Cup a few weeks ago. Ana is playing very good tennis this year, and looks set to break into the top 10 again. A win here will further prove that she belongs among the top. This match will be a close one, and I think both players want this win badly. Mentally, Halep has the upper hand. If Ana comes out firing, it might be too late for Simona to readjust. However, if it goes the distance Simona will prevail.
Pick: Ivanovic in 2 sets OR Halep in 3 sets
Caroline Garcia vs. Agnieszka Radwanska
Garcia is the real deal after she overcame Errani. She will face another hurdle in the form of Radwanska. Garcia's game is pure power, and it will be interesting to see how she deals with Agnieszka's crafty play. I think the French youngster's game is still a bit raw to handle the variety of Agnieszka, so I think the Pole should be able to win this. However, I hope Garcia learns from this meeting and gain the experience, so that it will make her a truly well-rounded top player.

Miami scorecard: GOAT Serena back
A+: Serena Williams
7 titles in Miami, 4 consecutive mandatory Premier titles. Nothing is going to stop the world number 1.
A: Li Na
Despite playing sub-par tennis, managed to reach the finals. Still a long way to go if she wants to challenge Serena.
A-: Dominika Cibulkova
Top 10 debut by defeating her ex-nemesis Agnieszka Radwanska. Could have reach the finals if she won the important points in the semi-finals
B+: Maria Sharapova
Struggled throughout the tournament but turned it on against Kvitova. Did well enough against Serena but still wasn't enough.
B: Caroline Wozniacki
For once, Caroline played well and showed signs of her game when she was number 1. Still mentally weak when it mattered against Li.
B-: Petra Kvitova
Humiliated Ivanovic, but showed her flaky form again playing Sharapova.
C+: Venus Williams
What fight the senior Williams has shown despite her illness. Pity that her illness struck here, but still put up a good fight against Cibulkova
C: Elina Svitolina
Almost finished Agnieszka in her match. The one to watch in coming months.
C-: Caroline Garcia
Went toe to toe with Serena Williams. Another youngster to watch who is on the rise.
D: Ana Ivanovic
Just when you thought she was ready to challenge the top girls again, she eats 2 bagels from Kvitova. Some things never change.
E: Sara Errani
Out of the top 10 now. Over ranked for the longest time. Maybe it's time to lower her expectations.
F: Jelena Jankovic
What a flop for the Serbian, losing in her first match when she's in good form. A golden opportunity wasted.

Miami final: Another record breaking feat by Serena
Miami final:
Serena Williams def. Li Na 7-5 6-1
Down 2-5 in the first set, Serena turned it up a notch just like that, and cruised to another Miami title. This is her 7th title here in 12 appearances, making her the winning-est player of this event, and the player with the most Miami titles. There was little Li could do once Serena switched it on. Despite her service being sub-par, Serena rallied on and grinded until her form is back. This shows how great Serena is as a champion, and how powerless the opponent can be although they are playing well themselves. Going into the clay season, Serena will be the one to beat, having a flawless clay record last year. With this performance, I don't think Serena will be challenged this year as well.

Miami F: Number 1 and 2 clash for the title
Miami final:
Serena Williams vs. Li Na
A fitting final for the top 2 seeds to vie for the prestigious Miami title. Serena was almost impeccable in her match against Sharapova. She fought when she was down, weathered the storm and served bombs when needed. Li had more trouble closing out Cibulkova, but staggered to the finish line. The American is the huge favourite here no doubt. Still, Li Na can make things interesting as she is now the underdog. Let's see if she'll play better with less pressure.
Pick: Serena Williams in 2 sets

Miami SF: Mouth-watering clashes
Serena Williams vs. Maria Sharapova
2 of the tour's biggest names will vie for a place in the Miami finals. A rematch of last year's final, Sharapova will be looking to reverse her losing streak against Williams. However, that seems like an uphill task as Serena looks to be playing well again. Maria has been shaky this whole week, so to reach the semi-finals is an achievement in itself. Serena should be able to take this easily.
Pick: Serena in 2 sets
Dominika Cibulkova vs. Li Na
Li will relish her chances against Cibulkova, having defeated her 7 times and already 2 times this year. Cibulkova can take heart that with her semi-final appearance, she will make her top 10 debut. Li's game seem to match well against the Slovak, so there should be no surprises here. Li just needs to keep her unforced errors in check and attack Dominika's vulnerable serve.
Pick: Li in 2 sets

Miami QF: Radwanska out for revenge
Match focus:
Dominika Cibulkova vs. Agnieszka Radwanska
Agnieszka seems to have recovered from her injury which was hampering her in Indian Wells. She will be out for revenge against Cibulkova, who upset her in the semi-finals of Melbourne. Cibulkova subdued a resurgent Venus Williams, and is just one win away from the top 10. She will be confident of her chance against Radwanska, but I think the Pole just had an off day in Melbourne. If Agnieszka is healthy and plays to her normal standard, she should be able to win this.
Pick: Radwanska in 2 sets
Caroline Wozniacki vs. Li Na
Destroying Sloane Stephens ought to give Caroline Wozniacki a much needed confidence boost. However, the American was just horrid in her match and Li is a much tougher opponent. Caroline's game is just too reactive to make a dent on Li's aggressive game. If the Chinese hits her spots, Wozniacki can provide little resistance. Well, it's an achievement for Caroline to reach the quarter-finals, but this should be where her journey ends.

Indian Wells report card: Veterans rule
A+: Flavia Pennetta
Biggest title at the age of 32. Doesn't get any better than this. Much deserved for the underachiever.
A: Agnieszka Radwanska
Unfortunate injury in the finals, but showcased her peak form against Simona Halep and Jelena Jankovic
A-: Simona Halep
Bumped into an on form Radwanska. If not, she might be holding the title now.
B+: Jelena Jankovic
Similar to Halep, unfortunate to meet flawless Radwanska. Looks like she's back to her peak.
B: Li Na
Never played well throughout a match in this tournament and still managed to reach the semi-finals.
B-: Casey Dellacqua
The comeback Aussie had a nice run to the quarters which will give her ranking a much neede boost.
C+: Lauren Davis
Extremely unlucky for her to suffer from an upset stomach when she's playing so well. The one to watch in future events.
C: Eugenie Bouchard
Did well to dismiss Errani, but faltered in the crucial point against Simona. Still needs to learn to handle the pressure.
C-: Camila Giorgi
Outhit Sharapova in a classic ball bashing match. Was sent crashing down to Earth though by someone who doesn't just know how to bash the ball.
D: Caroline Wozniacki
Dismissed easily by Jankovic. Tough pill to swallow for the defending finalist. Plunges to 18, lowest ranking in a while.
E: Maria Sharapova
Defending champion was out of sorts, made too many gross errors. Didn't deserve to win, but didn't expect her to crash out to a lowly Giorgi.
F: Victoria Azarenka
Why bother playing when you are injured? Puzzling decision.

Indian Wells SF: Heading for a Li Simona final
Simona Halep vs. Agnieszka Radwanska
Simona Halep will enter this match knowing that she won the last 2 encounters against Radwanska, and winning the 9 out of the last 10 matches she played. Agnieszka played well against Jankovic, but Simona's mental game is pretty much up there, so she won't unravel like Jelena did. Still, I think Agnieszka isn't going to go down without a fight, but the Romanian will be likely to reach her second consecutive mandatory premier final here.
Pick: Halep in 3 sets
Li Na vs. Flavia Pennetta
Two of the oldest players in the tournament proves that age is only a number. Pennetta overcame Sloane in a topsy turvy match which Stephens should have won. Experience paid off in the end as conditions were very tough to play in. After that exhausting match, it is almost safe to say Li will cruise to the finals with Flavia fatigued. Besides, Li just won their last match in Melbourne easily, so that will give her the confidence in this match.

Indian Wells QF: Melbourne final rematch
Li Na vs. Dominika Cibulkova
Melbourne finalists meet here against in the quarter-finals stage. Li has not been playing her best tennis, but it was enough to get her through to this stage. Cibulkova impressed with her straightforward victory over Kvitova, but will be the underdog here against Li. The match is pretty much in Li's racket, as she will be the one dictating points. Judging by her performance here, there will be patches of brilliance, followed by a slew of unforced errors. Still, I think the Chinese has too much game for the Slovak to overcome.
Pick: Li in 3 sets
Flavia Pennetta vs. Sloane Stephens
Pennetta continues her trend of only playing well in major events with a quarter-final appearance here. Can she topple the lone American hope, Sloane Stephens? Sloane also has the habit of playing well in bigger events, so this will be an interesting match. Off the ground, I would say Pennetta has the steadier game, but Sloane has more power. The pair has met 3 times all on clay, with Pennetta winning 2. I don't think it will make a difference as Sloane has improved since then, and also the surface difference. I think Pennetta should be able to edge out Sloane with her experience, but it will be a close one.

Indian Wells day 4: More shocks to follow?
What an absolute shocker for Azarenka to lose to Lauren Davis. Well, the former champion was clearly hampered by an injury, so I'm not too sure why she bothered to play anyway... Now the draw opens up for the quarter that she is in. Will more shocks follow?
Schedule of play:

Li Na vs. Zheng Jie
Schedule of play:
http://www.wtatennis.com/schedule/tournamentId/543/title/bnp-paribas-open
Match focus:
Li Na vs. Zheng Jie
These 2 compatriots know each other's game inside out. Interestingly, Zheng leads the head to head at 4-2, but won their first 4 meetings before 2006. Li has since won the next 2, and will be the favourite here as the top seed. However, Li's form has been shaky since her triumph in Melbourne. After her shock loss in Doha, she played an absolute stinker of a match in a Hong Kong exhibition against Samantha Stosur. This is truly puzzling as players tend to play better in matches that have less pressure. If Zheng wants to beat Li again, this is the perfect opportunity, with all the pressure on Li to liver up to her seeding. However, Zheng barely made it through Ormaechea, so I doubt she can complete the task.
Pick: Li in 3 sets
Maria Sharapova vs. Julia Goerges
Even when she was in peak form in 2011, Julia Goerges was not able to defeat Sharapova in 3 meetings. I highly doubt she can upset the reigning champion here with her current bad form. Sharapova seems to be still recovering from her shoulder injury, but she should be able to overcome the flashy German. However, citing Azarenka's example, anything can happen. If Julia hits her spots, she might just be able to clinch anothet top 10 scalp. Otherwise, I believe Sharapova's mental strength will tide her through.
Pick: Sharapova in 2 sets
Garbine Muguruza vs. Alisa Kleybanova
Garbine must be still recovering from her shock collapse in Florianopolis, where she lost the plot in the final. Against the feisty Kleybanova, she better be prepared as Alisa will run down all the balls and send them back with interest. One really has to admire Alisa for her determination and fight in overcoming her cancer, and her willingness to scramble for every ball despite her limited movement. Garbine is susceptible to concentration lapses, so Alisa might captialize on that and capture a good win.
Pick: Kleybanova in 2 tight sets
Camila Giorgi vs. Sorana Cirstea
Do not expect long rallies in this match, as both ladies love to blast the hell out of the ball. Giorgi came through qualifying and clinched a good win over the volatile Petkovic, stamping her authority with hard and well struck ground strokes. If she can continue her form, she can cause trouble for the equally hard hitting Cirstea. The problem with these girls is that you don't know which version of them will turn up on the actual day. Giorgi actually edged Cirstea out in last year's Wimbledon in 2 tiebreaks, so I believe the Italian does have an added advantage here.
Pick: Giorgi in 3 sets
Sure win bets: Angelique Kerber, Flavia Pennetta, Dominika Cibulkova, Petra Kvitova
Upset alert: Sloane Stephens, Sabine Lisicki, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Garbine Muguruza

Melbourne scorecard: Perfect-Li Asian
A+: Li Na
Now a multiple slam winner, Li got in the zone after her horrid error fest against Safarova. Not everyone can play perfect tennis everyday.
A: Dominika Cibulkova
Beating 2 former slam champions and 2 top 5 players en route to the finals, Cibulkova showed lots of heart. Now, just work on that second serve.
A-: Eugenie Bouchard
Didn't even qualify last year but made it all the way to the semi-finals this year. One to watch.
B+: Ana Ivanovic
Provided the shock of the tournament by ousting Serena Williams. Still, couldn't build on that and lost meekly to Bouchard.
B: Flavia Pennetta
Her last 3 slam performances are as follows: 4th round, semi-finals and quarter-finals. Big events bring out the best in her.
B-: Simona Halep
First quarter-final appearance, but was pretty bad in it. Let's hope there are more quarter appearances to redeem for this new top 10 player.
C+: Casey Dellacqua
Hard working Aussie who fought with all her heart to the 4th round. Deserves to be at least in the top 50.
C: Serena Williams/Maria Sharapova
Both players were affected by inopportune injuries. Not too worried about Serena, but Maria's serving woes seem to be back with a vengeance.
C-: Victoria Azarenka/Agnieszka Radwanska
Yes, both players made it very far in the tournament. But Victoria completely lost the plot against someone she used to beat blindfolded, and Radwanska crumbles with another final appearance at stake. Known to be mentally strong, these 2 folded at the most crucial times.
D: Luksika Kumkhum
Provided one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, but couldn't back it up. Needs to know how to handle the attention, but I'm still excited for this new Thai prospect.
E: Caroline Wozniacki
Yet another loss to an inspired ball basher. The Dane doesn't look interested in tennis honestly.
F: Sara Errani/Petra Kvitova
As top 10 players, the way they lost to lesser opponents is just inexcusable. Kvitova was just horrid in her first round, and Errani was just too passive. Both players need to refocus, or their place in the top 10 will be threatened.

Melbourne F: Pride of Asia
Melbourne final:
Li Na def. Dominika Cibulkova 7-6(3) 6-0
In a game dominated by genetically more gifted players, Li Na sticks out like a sore thumb just by being Asian. However, the defiant Li proves everyone wrong again by winning her 2nd slam in a dominating fashion. After a tense first set, Li zoned in on her shots and served Cibulkova the dreaded bagel. Not to say Dominika was bad, but Li was just too good. Credit must also be given to the diminutive Slovak. She is similarly disadvantaged with her lack of height, but made it up with plenty of fight and heart. With this win, Li Na will almost be a sure bet to make her appearance here in Singapore in the Year-End Championships. All I can say is, welcome Li Na! :)
