Li Na vs. Dominika Cibulkova
Melbourne finalists meet here against in the quarter-finals stage. Li has not been playing her best tennis, but it was enough to get her through to this stage. Cibulkova impressed with her straightforward victory over Kvitova, but will be the underdog here against Li. The match is pretty much in Li's racket, as she will be the one dictating points. Judging by her performance here, there will be patches of brilliance, followed by a slew of unforced errors. Still, I think the Chinese has too much game for the Slovak to overcome.
Pick: Li in 3 sets
Flavia Pennetta vs. Sloane Stephens
Pennetta continues her trend of only playing well in major events with a quarter-final appearance here. Can she topple the lone American hope, Sloane Stephens? Sloane also has the habit of playing well in bigger events, so this will be an interesting match. Off the ground, I would say Pennetta has the steadier game, but Sloane has more power. The pair has met 3 times all on clay, with Pennetta winning 2. I don't think it will make a difference as Sloane has improved since then, and also the surface difference. I think Pennetta should be able to edge out Sloane with her experience, but it will be a close one.
Pick: Pennetta in 3 sets
