New Haven QF: How long can Petra go on?

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova vs. Petra Kvitova

Kvitova is just wasting her time, refusing to put in the effort to become a real top player. She continues to play crappily through her matches but emerge the winner. The question is, when will it eventually catch up on her? Compared to other lesser talented girls who put their heart and soul into the sport, Kvitova should be ashamed of herself. Pavlyuchenkova took out Petra earlier this year in Brisbane and seems to be back on track. Let's see if she can shake Petra up and beat her again.

Pick: Pavlyuchenkova in 3 sets

Klara Zakopalova vs. Elena Vesnina

Klara Zakopalova proves that experience does matter, dispatching of young hope, Monica Puig. She will be up against a tougher opponent here as Vesnina just upset Kerber in straight sets earlier. From a well known choker to a proud owner of 2 titles, Vesnina has finally emerged after years of being almost there. She will be confident of her chance against Klara, who hasn't won a title in years.

Pick: Vesnina in 2 sets

Caroline Wozniacki vs. Sloane Stephens

The marquee match of the night, Sloane will take on the highest seed left, Wozniacki. Sloane is guilty of being the passive one in most of her matches when she has the ability to dominate. Now is a chance to showcase her aggressive side against the totally defensive Wozniacki. With her home crowd behind her, she will be confident of taking out the Dane, who barely scraped through her first round here. Wozniacki just needs to hope that Sloane misses, or else she's going to New York for a early preparation.

Pick: Stephens in 3 sets

Ekaterina Makarova vs. Simona Halep

Similar to Vesnina, Halep went from an almost girl to someone who's challenging the top players. Her transformation has been spectacular as she went from being ranked outside the top 50 to challenging the top 20. She will be eager to take on Makarova, whose speed isn't the best. Simona will make Ekaterina run around the court and even though she doesn't have a huge serve, her speed will make up for it. Makarova will need to find the form where she destroyed Errani, or else it might be over quickly.

Pick: Halep in 2 sets
