Schedule of play:
Serena Williams vs. Sara Errani
Oh dear Serena... She struggled mightily against Anabel Medina Garrigues and it doesn't bode well against Errani, who plays a similar and better game than the Spaniard. Something seems to be bothering Serena as speculations are rife that she re-aggravated her back injury. Let's hope she's clear of any injury and it was just a bad day in the office. Sara has the best chance to clinch her first win over the GOAT but Serena will fight like hell to the end. It will be a close match, or GOATrena will come out after the dismal performace today.
Pick: Serena in 2 tight sets
Maria Sharapova vs. Ana Ivanovic
What a pleasant surprise from Ana Ivanovic, who took out Kerber with ease. I was wrong to doubt her. Now, can she repeat her form against the hottest player on clay now? Sharapova has not lost on clay since last year right here in Madrid and she seems to be heading to another titanic clash with Serena again. Will the resurgent Ana stop her? Ana has beaten Sharapova on clay before, but that was when Maria was still struggling on this surface. She has since mastered the art of clay court tennis and is one of the best clay courters now. As usual, Ana needs to dictate the points and not let Maria take the initiative. I would like to be proven wrong again but Sharapova should have too many weapons for Ivanovic.
Pick: Sharapova in 2 sets
