Indian Wells day 6: Kleybanova to continue her fight

Schedule of play:

Match focus:

Alisa Kleybanova vs. Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor

Torro who? You will be forgiven if you've never heard of the Spaniard before. The unknown Maria-Teresa scored an impressive win over Kerber by basically just maniacally hitting her shots as hard as possible. She accomplished the job this time, but I highly doubt she will be able replicate that form again here. While Alisa is not as good a defender as Kerber, the Russian sends her shots back with interest and never gives up on a point. It is looking good for the cancer survivor to notch another win in her rapid rise back up the rankings.

Pick: Kleybanova in 2 sets

Ana Ivanovic vs. Sloane Stephens

Ana was dreadful in her previous match against Svitolina, where she barely scraped through. She will be looking down at the barrel against a refocused Sloane Stephens. The American dismissed Alja in double quick time in her second round. Just when you thought the old Ana is back, she reminds us that she's not really there yet by stinking up her match. I believe under the tutelage of Paul Annacone, Stephens will take her game to the next level and finally live up to her hype.

Pick: Stephens in 2 sets

Svetlana Kuznetsova vs. Petra Kvitova

Everyone knows Kuznetsova has the game to beat anyone if she's on song. The problem is that her brain seldom allows her to do so. Petra has the same problem, with her lack of fitness and tactical thinking, causing her to have absurd losses every now and then. Two of the tour's most volatile players, who dares to wager a bet? Avoid this match like the plague. You just don't know which version will turn up. If I must choose a victor, I'll go with Kvitova on the account that she has a bigger serve.

Pick: Kvitova in 3 sets

Sure win bets: Li Na, Maria Sharapova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
Upset alert: Dominika Cibulkova, Samantha Stosur, Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor

  1. Simply put, you are good at what you do and clearly head and shoulders above the rest of them. I have followed you for quite some time to see the evidence time and time again. bravo!!

    1. Well, thank you for your kind words! I got lucky yesterday and got totally blind sided by the upsets of Pavlyuchenkova and Sharapova! Thank you again and hopefully I get more followers! :)))
