Brussels and Strasbourg: SF wrap-up

Brussels:

(1) Agnieszka Radwanska def. (8) Kaia Kanepi 7-6(8) 6-3

If there's a song describing Kaia's game, it will be Katy Perry's Hot and Cold. Leading 5-1 and 2 set points, she manages to double fault both of them and let Radwanska get back into the set and eventually win the match. The world number 3 weathered the storm and took out the big hitting but inconsistent Estonian to reach her 3rd final this year. Looks like she's going to add another title to her resume now.

Simona Halep def. Sofia Arvidsson 6-4 6-3

Maybe it's the chance at reaching a premier event final for the first time, neither players player well. But Simona capped off her impressive week by reaching the finals to face the top seed Agnieszka Radwanska. I'm sure the Romanian is satisfied with her performance this week but let's face it, Radwanska is another league above Simona. Halep should just have some fun and enjoy the occasion tomorrow and prepare for Paris.

Strasbourg:

(2) Francesca Schiavone def. Sloane Stephens 7-5 6-1

Francesca wins again to reach the final by beating young American Sloane Stephens. Sloane fought well in the first set but once Francesca won it, it was a one way traffic. Really good signs for Francesca as she finds herself in a relatively soft spot in the Paris draw. As for Sloane, she is one to watch and definitely bound for the top 50.

(WC) Alize Cornet def. Pauline Parmentier 4-6 6-1 6-3

Alize Cornet is back! She reaches her first final since... Budapest 2008! This is a good sign for the French lass as she was struggling to string wins for the past year. Clay will always be her best surface given her naturally defensive game and I've always had a soft spot for players who never give up even when they have fell down the rankings. Pauline as usual, had an uninspired game and collapsed once Alize started making her think more. Epitome of a journeywoman.
