Serena's back!

Palermo:

(1) Sara Errani (ITA) d. Patricia Mayr-Achleitner (AUT) 63 62
Alexandra Cadantu (ROU) d. (7) Alizé Cornet (FRA) 63 57 62
Irina-Camelia Begu (ROU) d. Lourdes Domínguez Lino (ESP) 36 61 64
(Q) Estrella Cabeza Candela (ESP) d. (WC) Maria Elena Camerin (ITA) 76(3) 75

Singles - First Round
(8) Barbora Zahlavova Strycova (CZE) d. Sílvia Soler-Espinosa (ESP) 75 76(3)

Stanford:

Singles - Second Round
(1) Serena Williams (USA) d. (WC) Nicole Gibbs (USA) 62 61
(5) Yanina Wickmayer (BEL) d. Heather Watson (GBR) 57 61 64
(6) Chanelle Scheepers (RSA) d. (WC) Michelle Larcher de Brito (POR) 63 64

Serena's back in action and didn't withdraw from Stanford! She can easily rip this depleted field apart if nothing goes wrong. No real upsets here in both Palermo and Stanford.

Alexandra Cadantu (ROU) d. (7) Alizé Cornet (FRA) 63 57 62

Cornet seemed to be back to her good old days when she reached the Strasbourg finals and won Bad Gastein a few weeks ago. However, she suffered a shock loss here to Cadantu, who has been struggling to string wins together. Too bad for Alize as she has is a favourite for at least the semi-finals here. Well, let's hope this is just a little hiccup and Alize won't be too disheartened by this.
