Time difference is a bitch

With one tournament in the US and one in Europe, I have no idea how to update this blog... I guess I'll just do whatever has been finished.

Palermo:

Alexandra Cadantu def. Kiki Bertens 6-3 6-2

After winning her first clay title a few months back, Kiki Bertens plunges back to Earth with this puzzling loss. She seemed to be headed up the rankings with a good showing in Wimbledon. Maybe the change back to clay is too much for her. Anyway, better to lose here than a major tournament I guess.

Irina-Camelia Begu def. Polona Hercog 6-1 7-6

Polona Hercog hasn't won a match in ages so it's not surprising that she lost this as well. What's surprising is that this loss is on clay, her favourite surface. Polona incurred some form of injury a few months back and I'm pretty sure it's still affecting her. Maybe she should let it heal fully before coming back or else her confidence will be shattered.

Stanford:

Michelle Larcher De Brito def. Jarmila Gajdosova 5-7 6-2 6-3

Jarmila has a massive game but doesn't have the head to control her game. It results in wildly inconsistent results like this loss. Michelle has one of the worse serves on tour and still manages to win this. Shows how off Jarmila must have been. She should see a sports psychologist or else all the talent will be wasted.
