Australian Open day 10: Can Svetlana upset Azarenka?

Australian Open QF:

Victoria Azarenka vs. Svetlana Kuznetsova

Comeback kid Svetlana Kuznetsova takes on the top seed for a place in the semi-finals. Interestingly, Kuznetsova leads their heads-to-heads 4-3. However, most of the matches were when Azarenka was still young and a headcase. Victoria has won the last 2 encounters last year. Will Kuznetsova's resurgence continue? Or will the number 1 seed remain on course to another title? Azarenka will definitely be the fresher player as Kuznetsova laboured through her last match against Wozniacki. Like what Vesnina should have done, Kuznetsova needs to mix it up and attack the net when possible. Having a slugfest with Azarenka isn't going to cut it. Tough task to ask of Svetlana, so I think the Belarussian will advance to the last 4.

Pick: Azarenka in 2 tight sets

Serena Williams vs. Sloane Stephens

I'm sorry Sloane, but when Serena's zoned in like she has been, there's nothing you can do. Serena has been ploughing through the field like her opponents were bowling pins and I don't expect anything different. Sloane may be the new American hope, but Serena will show her who's the boss. Stephens did well in Brisbane but that was a non-slam Serena. Serena in a slam is a completely different player, so I don't expect a similar match compared to Brisbane.

Pick: Serena Williams in 2 easy sets
