Match focus:
Serena Williams vs. Svetlana Kuznetsova
Kuznetsova won the title here in 2009, beating Serena in the same stage that year. Will history repeat itself again? One thing's for sure, Serena cannot let her guard down. Kuznetsova is capable of playing lights out tennis when she's on. The only disadvantage for Svetlana is that she's still lacking in the match toughness to edge out close matches. Serena's confidence is untouchable and if the set gets close, Serena will mostly likely claim it. So far, Serena has cruised past her opponents. Kuznetsova will provide a tougher test, but I don't think it's enough to topple the world number 1.
Pick: Serena in 2 tight sets
Agnieszka Radwanska vs. Sara Errani
Everyone was picking Radwanska to make an early exit and look where she is now. Despite having zero wins on clay, Agnieszka picked the right tournament to peak and is into her first quarter-final here in Paris. Standing in her way is last year's finalist, Sara Errani. The Italian had a minor injury scare in her 4th round match but seemed to be fine in the last 2 sets. If she's not bothered by her breathing problems, she should stand a chance against the Pole. Matches between these 2 are very close and we can expect a lot of long drawn rallies. Given Sara's toughness on clay, I have to favour her. She seems to be going from strength to strength despite having a horrific start to the season.
Pick: Errani in 3 long sets
