Roland Garros final: Serena claims her crown

Roland Garros final:

Serena Williams def. Maria Sharapova 6-4 6-4

Credit to Maria, she did not get destroyed in this latest meeting. However, she still lost to a clearly superior player in Serena Williams. Maria started well with a tight hold and broke Serena promptly. It was clear that the Russian is going all out and hitting her shots with high ferocity and risk. Sadly, no one is able to play high risk tennis for an elongated time without the errors. Once Serena settled in, there was no looking back as Maria's errors came fast and furious. Great mental strength by the American, not being fazed by Sharapova's aggressive play and come ons. Instead, she steadied herself and despite coming close to breaking for the match, she served it out with a booming ace. This is Serena's 16th Grand Slam and her motivation should be to equal Navratilova's and Evert's record of 18. If she continues her form, it is very possible that she can reach it by this year. All hail the queen of tennis, Serena Williams.
