Brussels & Strasbourg: Day 1 round up

Shockers: Pauline Parmentier def. (1) Sabine Lisicki 6-4 6-4

Top seed topples in the first round! Granted that Sabine just came back from an injury, but this loss is inexcusable. This year has really been disappointing from the German. Tons of injuries and unexplained losses. If she is not 100%, she shouldn't play. We can officially add Sabine to the long list of slump queens now.

Simona Halep def. Jelena Jankovic 6-2 3-6 7-6(3)

Oh dear Jelena. No words. Why bother fighting all the way just to lose in the third set tiebreak? This is the second time in a row where she lost in this manner. Just sad to see her struggling. I think Jelena will take any win now, even if her opponent has to withdraw due to injury. Jelena will not go past the third round in Roland Garros. Mark my words.

Alison Van Uytvanck def. Ksenia Pervak 6-3 5-7 6-4

Alison who?? For those who follow juniors, you would have know this young Belgian is one to watch for the future. She held her nerve and defeated a top 50 player which is very impressive. As for Ksenia, I will never believe that she won titles last year. Her boring game and unexciting game is truly a torture to watch. Another player looking at an early exit in Paris.
