Brussels & Strasbourg: Day 2

Sorry for not updating day 2 but I was away on a holiday! Here's a quick catch-up.

Shockers:

Chanelle Scheepers def. (9) Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 7-5 6-2

Pavlyuchenkova falls again! Alright, I don't see any jaws dropping. Nothing new here as the Russian is still struggling with her epic slump. Chanelle Scheepers is not slouch though. She's definitely what we call a late bloomer, reaching her career high ranking at the latter end of the 20s. What is weird that this South African refuses to play for her country in Olympics even though she has qualified for it. So much for patriotism. Anyway, Pavlyuchenkova better work hard or she's going to drop far far down the rankings once her semi-final points in Paris drops off.

(Q) Alexandra Panova def. (5) Mona Barthel 6-3 7-6(5)

Oops... I think I jinxed Mona big time by picking her to win the tournament. She loses to Panova, who has been struggling in ITFs all her career. What a big shock. I guess Mona has to manage herself better as she's the one who everyone is looking out for now. If she doesn't cope with the attention, she might have a free fall.

Ayumi Morita def. (6) Marina Erakovic 6-1 6-3

Ayumi is back! This Japanese girl has been struggling with injuries this year but seems to be fully recovered. She took out the 6th seed, Marina Erakovic who is in relatively good form easily. Let's hope she can maintain this form and bring it to Paris. :)
