(13) Ana Ivanovic def. Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3 6-4
Christina McHale def. Monica Niculescu 6-4 6-4

Shockers:

Vania King def. Tsvetana Pironkova 6-0 6-1

I did not expect Tsvetana to win this match but the scoreline is just bizarre. Rumour has it that she's injured. So why is she even here in the first place? What a weird strategy. I guess after Wimbledon, Tsvetana will be where she belongs. :/

(13) Ana Ivanovic def. Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3 6-4

Well, not really a shocker given Svetlana's dire form. As suspected, her serve was a liability. winning less than 50% of her points on serve. Sveta, please learn how to serve again or you really risk becoming a has-been.

Expected:

Ekaterina Makarova def. (10) Francesca Schiavone 6-3 6-4

Sigh... It's sad to see a player who is struggling on court. According to commentators, Francesca reportedly asked for her coach and told him that she had no strength. It's a sad day for the local fans to see their Fed Cup heroine go down like that. Anyway, Francesca had an amazing career and she has nothing to be ashamed of. Let's hope that she has one more good tournament left in her.
