(1) Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) d. (WC) Sloane Stephens (USA) 61 46 64
(2) Serena Williams (USA) d. (Q) Urszula Radwanska (POL) 64 63
(3) Samantha Stosur (AUS) d. Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) 61 63
(4) Petra Kvitova (CZE) d. Peng Shuai (CHN) 62 62
(5) Angelique Kerber (GER) d. (Q) Andrea Hlavackova (CZE) 64 76(5)
(WC) Venus Williams (USA) d. (7) Sara Errani (ITA) 63 60

Shockers:

(WC) Venus Williams (USA) d. (7) Sara Errani (ITA) 63 60

Ever since reaching the top 10, Errani has made it quite a habit to eat bagels and breadsticks. Her over-inflated ranking shows that she is benefiting from all the smaller clay court tournament wins this year. She is obviously not in the top 10 calibre and the thrashings she has suffered so far shows you why. Venus looks good and if she continues her form, we might have an all-Williams final for the first time since 2009 YEC.

(1) Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) d. (WC) Sloane Stephens (USA) 61 46 64

The top seed struggles again and squeezes out a win against a young Sloane Stephens. After being outplayed in the first set, Radwanska was in turn outplayed by Sloane who raced to a 4-0 lead. A mini fightback from Radwanska started but it wasn't enough as Stephens broke Agnieszka to take the set. Somehow, Sloane became passive and stop playing the tennis that gave her the second set. The Pole fought hard and emerged the victor. But one cannot help but wonder if Radwanska is suffering from a burnout. Her on-court demeanour is just listless and uninterested. Ever since reaching her first slam final, she has gone downhill. Let's see if she will have a brief struggle like Kvitova or plunge into a black hole like Ivanovic.

(3) Samantha Stosur (AUS) d. Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) 61 63

After struggling mightily against Anabel Medina Garrigues, Samantha Stosur surprisingly took out Makarova easily. It's really hard to read what's going on with the Aussie's game as she is so hot and cold. One minute she can be serving bombs and hitting forehand missiles. The next minute, she can be mishitting serves and hitting home-runs into the crowd. It's no wonder why people find it hard to support her. Her game is just not pleasing to the eye. Anyway, a lot is at stake 2 weeks later so I'm sure Stosur is happy to have some buffer in case of an early exit in the US Open.
