Cincinnati: Li Na wins her first title of the year

Final:

Li Na def. Angelique Kerber 1-6 6-3 6-1

Apologies for the late update. Just a little bit hectic with work lately. Anyway, Li finally clinches her first title of the year after 3 final appearances by coming back from a huge deficit to beat Kerber in 3 sets. After being owned for a set and a half, Li started to play deeper and handle everything better from Kerber. She won 11 of the last 12 games from 1-6 1-3 down to a hard fought victory. Once Li got into the rhythm, Kerber couldn't do much. She was near tears when her coach came on court. Sad for the German but she can't be too upset with her week. She has, after all, beaten Serena Williams and Petra Kvitova in succession. Not many can claim to have achieved that. Li's new coach, Carlos Rodriguez, is an immense calming presence and it may be what the highly emotional Li needs. So even though she claims to be feeling old at 30, Li is not someone to taken lightly with her new approach to the game. Well done Li!
