Olympics: GOATrena for gold?

(4) Serena Williams def. (1) Victoria Azarenka 6-1 6-2

World number 1 Victoria Azarenka was just demolished. Serena was in no mood to linger around on court and just blasted Victoria off. It's quite a marvel watching Serena destroy her opponents at the age 30.It seems that she is playing better then a few years ago and shades of her 2002 dominance can be seen. Serena finally reaches her first Olympics singles final and she's looking very strong to add another singles medal to her tally. With a gold medal, there is almost no doubt that Serena is the greatest female player of all time. Well done Serena.

(3) Maria Sharapova def. (14) Maria Kirilenko 6-2 6-3

Well, Kirilenko couldn't slay 2 big names in a row. It would be too much to ask of her. This result was never in doubt as Sharapova proves that her Wimbledon loss was just a fluke. It is quite obvious that the real number 1 and 2 is Sharapova and Serena Williams. So it will be fitting for the 2 of them to meet in the gold medal match. It will be uber exciting for tennis fans to see these 2 stars fight for the gold.

Gold medal match:

(4) Serena Williams vs. (3) Maria Sharapova

The biggest stars of WTA clash in the finale of Olympics. This is the match that everyone has been waiting for. Sharapova will be eager to show that she is the real number 1 and Serena will be hungry to add a singles gold medal, the only one missing in her already impressive resume. Judging by their last meeting on clay, Serena will be very confident facing Sharapova. Also, with her impressive serving, it would be very difficult for Sharapova to break the Williams's serve. Maria needs to serve well herself and seriously hope for some mistakes from Serena. Whatever the result, tennis wins.

Pick: Serena Williams in 2 sets

Bronze medal match:

(1) Victoria Azarenka vs. (14) Maria Kirilenko

Does Kirilenko have a chance at a medal here? It all depends on how affected Victoria is after being annihilated by Serena today. However, I do feel that Victoria will be fine as that match wasn't in her hands. Serena was just too good. If it was a close match and she lost it, Maria might have a chance at sneaking away with a bronze medal. Azarenka should be confident about her chances in this match and will be consoled by winning a bronze for Belarus.

Pick: Azarenka in 2 sets
