Day 7: Fresh faces in 2nd week

Schedule: http://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/schedule/index.html?promo=subnav

(1) Victoria Azarenka vs. Anna Tatishvili

Anna who? The girl from Georgia makes her 4th round debut at a Grand Slam after beating Foretz Garcon, Cirstea, and Minella. She will face a total different player in Victoria Azarenka, who is ruthless in her destruction of Zheng Jie. Anna will be remembered for going Wozniacki a scare back in Australian Open this year (but it Caroline... So not a big surprise). Will she make Azarenka panic too? Azarenka is just cruising through her matches and I don't think Tatishvili has the firepower to trouble her. So it's another demolition by the world number 1 I'm afraid.

Pick: Azarenka in 2 easy sets

(3) Maria Sharapova vs. (19) Nadia Petrova

All Russian clash here in the 4th round as Maria Sharapova takes on Nadia Petrova. These 2 players have played each other for numerous times and Sharapova has won all except one of their match-ups. Well, actually Maria has won all of the matches as she tanked badly in Nadia's only win back in 2005 YEC when Maria had already qualified for the semi-finals. I do not see Nadia going away with the W next to her name this time either. Nadia should be happy with her showing as she is near the twilight of her career.

Pick: Sharapova in 2 sets

Laura Robson vs. (6) Samantha Stosur

Defending champion Stosur takes on surprise package of the tournament, Laura Robson. Stosur is a headcase and can lose to anyone on her bad day. Laura has proven to us that she can remain calm and raise her level to match the tennis elites. Will she pull another upset here? It is very possible as Robson's forehand can do real damage when going cross-court to Stosur's backhand. Laura just needs to focus on hitting to that side and she can pull off with another upset.

Pick: Robson in 3 sets

(11) Marion Bartoli vs. (5) Petra Kvitova

Marion Bartoli shakes off her poor form by reaching the 4th round of the US Open. After her epic struggle with Oprandi in the 2nd round, she routed Mladenovic in the 3rd to set up another clash with Petra Kvitova. Petra absolutely destroyed Marion a few weeks ago and I don't expect any surprises here. Whatever Marion does well, Petra does it better. So this should be an easy victory for the US Open series winner.

Pick: Kvitova in 2 sets
