US Open QF: Azarenka scrapes pass Stosur

(1) Victoria Azarenka def. (6) Samantha Stosur 6-1 4-6 7-6(5)

Samantha Stosur fought hard but came down short again in a 3rd set tie-break. This is the 2nd time in 3 years where she lost in the 3rd set tiebreak. If US Open didn't adopted a 3rd set tiebreak set, Stosur might have came off with the win as she was hitting her service very well. Samantha should be happy that she finally took a set off Azarenka and with her showing here. Dogged by suspect form coming into this tournament, I doubt anybody expected her to reach the quarter-finals. Azarenka breathes a sigh of relief and advances to her first semi-final in the US Open. She will remain number 1 regardless of how the others perform with this showing.

(11) Marion Bartoli leads (3) Maria Sharapova 4-0

Surprise surprise. Marion Bartoli continues her fine form by winning the first 4 games against Maria Sharapova before the match got suspended by rain. Will Bartoli continue her bulldozing ways or will Sharapova fight back? I believe Marion will almost definitely win the set, thus claiming her first set over Sharapova. Maria needs to start serving better and hope for Bartoli to go off the boil. If not, she will be shown the door pretty quickly.
