US Open day 8: Radwanska in danger?

Schedule: http://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/schedule/index.html?promo=subnav

Tsvetana Pironkova vs. (12) Ana Ivanovic

Ana Ivanovic aims to reach her first slam quarter-finals since Roland Garros 2008. She stands a good chance as she faces Pironkova, who is making her debut in the 4th round here. Ana fought off a spirited Sloane Stephens in her previous round and should have enough weapons to see off Pironkova. But with Ana, anything is possible. I won't be surprised if she somehow manages to lose easily to the Bulgarian. Ana needs to keep her emotions intact and not rush the points. If Ana starts to panic, Pironkova will run away with this match.

Pick: Ivanovic in 3 sets

Andrea Hlavackova vs. (4) Serena Williams

I don't think anyone in their right mind would bet on Hlavackova taking a set, let alone winning the match. The Czech double specialist has played Serena many times on the doubles court and couldn't beat the Williams sisters. I do not see any difference on the singles court. Hlavackova will be pleased with her performance so far and just go out and enjoy the experience of playing on Arthur Ashe.

Pick: Williams in 2 easy sets

(6) Angelique Kerber vs. (10) Sara Errani

Sara Errani beat Angelique Kerber on her way to the Roland Garros final this year. Can she repeat again? Kerber was ruthless in her disposal of Govortsova in her previous round, so no signs of fatigue after her marathon match with Venus. She will be more than prepared with Sara Errani, so far the weakest link in the top 10. Clay is Kerber's worst surface and Errani's best, while hard courts are not Errani's forte. Kerber should be able to put away the pesky Italian and advance to the quarter-finals.

Pick: Kerber in 2 tight sets

(20) Roberta Vinci vs. (2) Agnieszka Radwanska

Red hot Roberta Vinci will try to continue her form by beating Agnieszka Radwanska. Radwanska has not been on form recently but was gifted the easiest draw ever. Her opponents seem to not know how to construct a point or think that they are supposed to hit to the green part of the court. Vinci needs to move Radwanska around and make her hit uncomfortable shots. Radwanska is very beatable and I hope Vinci grabs the chance to advance to her first slam quarter-final. But knowing WTA, Radwanska will push herself to yet another unworthy win.

Pick: Radwanska in 3 sets
