Guangzhou and Seoul: Mickey Mouse delight

Guangzhou:

Timea Babos vs. Bojana Jovanovski
Wang Qiang vs. Chanelle Scheepers
Maria-Theresa Torro-Flor vs. Laura Robson
Pauline Parmentier vs. Mandy Minella

Seoul:

Galina Voskoboeva vs. Hong Hyun Hui
Han Sung-Hee vs. Kaia Kanepi
Julia Goerges vs. Silvia Soler-Espinosa
Vania King vs. Kiki Bertens

Match focus:

Timea Babos vs. Bojana Jovanovski

Debut title winners of this year meet in this first round clash. After winning her first title, Babos has been a trainwreck. Maybe she couldn't handle the pressure and was expecting too much of herself. It's a pity because Babos has the weapons to succeed on tour. If she sorts out her brain, she will be a top player easily. Bojana, on the other hand, is rather limited in her talent compartment. However, she makes it up by competing furiously and never giving up. Given her rather recent triumph in Baku, Bojana is primed to win this match.

Pick: Jovanovski in 2 sets

Pauline Parmentier vs. Mandy Minella

Two rather ordinary girls will battle for a place in the second round. These 2 players have similar unimaginative games, so the deciding factor will be who crumbles first. Parmentier has more experience on the big stage so I predict her to win this match. Minella is too hot and cold to take out the steady Parmentier.

Pick: Parmentier in 2 sets

Julia Goerges vs. Silvia Soler-Espinosa

Trying to predict a Julia Goerges match is like trying to catch a fish with your bare hands. This volatile German plays well when you don't expect to, and fold like a cheap tent when you expect her to cruise. Therefore, I predict that Goerges will fall in spectacularly embarrassing fashion to Soler Espinosa. The Spaniard is very steady and Goerges will probably destroy herself with her crazy errors.

Pick: Soler Espinosa in 2 sets

Vania King vs. Kiki Bertens

Kiki Bertens burst out of nowhere to win Fes earlier this year and is rapidly making progress up the rankings. She takes on doubles specialist, Vania King in the first round. Vania has been on the tour for sometime and always competes well. However, she lacks the finishing blow to win matches while Kiki is young and fearless. Kiki was look to hit herself to victory while Vania will be mixing it up with surprise ventures to the net. This should be a close contest but I predict Vania's experience to come through.

Pick: King in 3 sets

Sure win bets: Kaia Kanepi, Galina Voskoboeva, Laura Robson, Chanelle Scheepers
Upset alert: Julia Goerges, Timea Babos, Mandy Minella
