Upset of the day:

Chan Yung-Jan def. Daniela Hantuchova 6-1 1-6 6-1

Oh dear lord. WTF was that Daniela? This cannot happen if Daniela is 100% healthy. After destroying Errani in Brisbane, something just switched off for the Slovak and she just isn't there mentally or physically. This loss marks the 3rd consecutive time that she has exited in the first round of a slam and things aren't looking good for the aging tennis star. Let's hope this isn't the end of the road for Daniela.

Samantha Stosur def. Chang Kai-Chen 7-6(3) 6-3

OMG... My eyes! There shouldn't be a winner from this match because both of them were stinking up the court. Samantha was her usual bag of nerves, mishitting balls and making ugly unforced errors. But Chang went toe to toe with her in the unforced error counts and threw in so many double faults to make Stosur's life easier. Advice to the Taiwanese, get a serve. Her ground game is pretty solid but her serve is just dire. Stosur escapes but she faces the player who kicked her out last week next. If she continues her form like today, she will bid sayonara soon.

Dominika Cibulkova def. Ashleigh Barty 3-6 6-0 6-1

What started out so promisingly turn out into a huge disaster for Ashleigh Barty. Her game just unraveled after a spectacular first set. Credit to Dominika for fighting it through but she must really thank the young Aussie for seemingly giving up in the end. Barty's casual and nonchalant attitude did her no good in the last 2 sets as errors flowed freely. If only tennis consists of only one set. Barty needs to mature and learn to maintain her level of play. When she does that, she can definitely challenge the top players. Until then, this is a valuable lesson to her.

Misaki Doi def, Petra Martic 6-3 6-4

Ever since Roland Garros last year, Martic has doen absolutely nothing. It seems that she is carrying an injury but continues to play with it. Dear Petra, if you are injured, REST. There's no point playing and losing your confidence along the way. you are just wasting a spot in the main draw by being a walking bye. Misaki lucked out with her draw but she will definitely be destroyed in her next match against Sharapova.

Ksenia Pervak def. Mona Barthel 7-5 2-6 6-4

Mona Barthel earns the honour of being the first seed to be ousted. Granted that Pervak has been playing well this year, Mona really should have won this. Pervak continues her good form and will be a good bet for a 3rd round appearance. As for Mona, she needs to be more consistent and not let her level fluctuate that much, because she can play spectacular tennis when she's on. Hopefully, a good coach can get her game back on track.
