Australian Open Day 10: Sloane stuns Serena

Australian Open QF:

Sloane Stephens def. Serena Williams 3-6 7-5 6-4

Sloane Stephens stuns the tennis world by upsetting seemingly unbeatable Serena Williams. Serena was hampered by a back injury and couldn't play to her hundred percent. But an injured Serena is also just as dangerous as she will be more aggressive than usual. Credit has to be given to Sloane for shutting out Serena's injury and going for her shots. This is Williams' first loss since last August and dashes the hope of a Serena golden slam. However, what is more important is that she recovers in time to concentrate on the French open, where she crashed out in the first round last year. Sloane will face top seed Azarenka in the semi-finals. If she displays her fearless hitting like this match, she might stand a good chance of reaching the finals. Well done Sloane!

Victoria Azarenka def. Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-5 6-1

Kuznetsova sprinted to a quick start, breaking azarenka early and establishing a 4-1 lead. However, the wheels fell off and Victoria was able to inch out the first set. After losing the first set, sveta's game crumbled as her unforced errors piled up. This is what you get from kuznetsova. One day she can be a world beater, the next she can hit herself out of the court. Azarenka will be happy to see Serena ousted and she stands a very good chance of defending her title from last year.
