Elena Vesnina def. Mona Barthel 6-3 6-4
Elena Vesnina finally clinches her first title after 7 tries! She defeated Mona Barthel who was the defending champion in straight sets. Barthel was not playing well but Vesnina was mentally strong in the end, dropping to her knees when she won the match. This is her first singles title of any kind since a 25K event all the way back in 2003 (!). What an inspirational moment for all. As long as you keep trying, you will achieve your goals. Hopefully Vesnina will fulfil her full potential this year as she finally got the monkey off her back.
