Li Na def. Venus Williams 7-5 3-6 6-1
On top of her autoimmune disease, Venus Williams strained her back as she picks up another injury. Maybe it's her body's way of telling her to stop playing tennis. Anyway, Venus did not go down without a fight but the win for Li Na was inevitable. Although she was unable to drop her serve bombs, Venus had to play smart and it seemed to work for the second set. However, Li finally gets used to her power-puff delieveries and powers her way into another final. Let's hope that Venus can recover in time for the US Open because she can some damage there.
Angelique Kerber def. Petra Kvitova 6-1 2-6 6-4
Kerber defeats the last 2 Wimbledon champions in a row as she reaches her first Premier 5 final. This year has been a breakthrough for the German and she's going from strength to strength. Against such a power hitter like Kvitova, Kerber did well to deflect her shots and make her hit that extra ball. Petra's unforced errors were the cause of this loss. As long as Kerber keeps her game clean, Petra will have trouble defeating her.
Cincinnati final:
Li Na vs. Angelique Kerber
Angelique Kerber and Li Na will fight for the title in the Cincinnati decider. These 2 players have split their last 2 encounters this year but Kerber will have the advantage here after knocking out Serena Williams and Petra Kvitova. Li Na has a new coach behind her in the form of Carlos Rodriguez and will probably work on the volatile temperment of the Chinese. Let's see if this new pairing will bring in better results for Li. I am going to favour the more steady player as Li is still prone to lose her concentrations. Besides, Kerber won their previous encounter on American hardcourts this year in Indian Wells and is riding high on confidence.
Pick: Kerber in 3 sets
