Day 8 preview: No upsets?

Victoria Azarenka BLR (1) vs Dominika Cibulkova SVK (15)
Sloane Stephens USA vs Samantha Stosur AUS (6)
Svetlana Kuznetsova RUS (26) vs Sara Errani ITA (21)
Angelique Kerber GER (10) vs Petra Martic CRO

Match focus:

Victoria Azarenka BLR (1) vs Dominika Cibulkova SVK (15)

The top seed will meet petite Cibulkova in the 4th round. Cibulkova has been quietly doing her business and is playing well in all her 3 matches. She will try to take out the top seed as she is still looking wobbly. Victoria still isn't her best in her match against Wozniak but it was enough. Will it be sufficient for her to take out Cibulkova? Or will Victoria finally succumb to her demons? One thing to note though is the head-to-head of these 2 players. Victoria leads 7-1 and will be very confident going into this match knowing that.

Pick: Azarenka in straight sets

Sloane Stephens USA vs Samantha Stosur AUS (6)

Sloane Stephens will probably be happy enough to reach the 4th round so it's pretty much on Sam's racket. Samantha plays a different game from all the other girls with her heavy forehand and huge serve. Sloane might not be able to handle that as this is their first meeting. Sloane needs to go out swinging and just enjoy the moment.

Pick: Stosur in 2 easy sets

Svetlana Kuznetsova RUS (26) vs Sara Errani ITA (21)

Lower seeds meet up in this 4th round encounter. I was really impressed by Sveta's performance in her match against Radwanska, especially her backhand. Sveta's forehand is her strength, but her backhand was massive in her previous match, hitting winners at will. So Errani will have a hard time figuring out a game plan for Sveta. Against Ana, she can just rally to Ana's backhand. But this time, both wings are lethal. I hope Sveta has finally conquered her mental demons because this is her best chance at another Grand Slam final given the draw.

Pick: Kuznetsova in 2 sets

Angelique Kerber GER (10) vs Petra Martic CRO

Angelique Kerber has been very impressive all year long and I don't expect her to slow down any moment. She will take out Petra Martic, who is already very elated at this showing, easily. Kerber was very tough against Pennetta despite losing the first set. She scrambled well, turned defense into offense. A magnificent performance. I guess Petra will be too over-awed by the occasion to play her best.

Pick: Kerber in 2 sets
