Mayhem everywhere

The rain really threw me off. Birmingham still has a final to be played including 2 players which are not expected, Bad Gastein has been completed with an upset win; and lastly, Den Bosch has started without me knowing it!

Birmingham final:

Melanie Oudin vs. (5) Jelena Jankovic

Well well, Melanie Oudin went against all odds and reached the finals, battling through Falconi and Makarova. I guess she really believed this time. Have to hand it to her as she has already played about 7 matches to reach this stage. Jelena Jankovic also had to fight hard to reach the finals as she was close to losing to Zheng Jie in her semi-final match. 2 players on a comeback trail, who will win the finals? As a former champion here, Jankovic is the favourite here. But Melanie has won their only meeting on grass in 2009 in Wimbledon. Will the American be able to pull of the upset again?

Pick: Jankovic in 3 tight sets

Bad Gastein:

(7) Alize Cornet def. (2) Yanina Wickmayer 7-5 7-6(1)

Yanina wastes another chance at adding another title to her resume as she loses to Alize Cornet in Austria. Cornet deserves this for battling her way back up the rankings and claims her first title since 2008. Congratulations to Alize for another Mickey Mouse title.

Unicef Open:

Singles - First Round
(4) Flavia Pennetta (ITA) d. Olga Govortsova (BLR) 26 61 61
Anabel Medina Garrigues (ESP) d. Simona Halep (ROU) 76(3) 62
Kim Clijsters (BEL) d. Romina Oprandi (SUI) 67(5) 62 63

Kim Clijsters (BEL) d. Romina Oprandi (SUI) 67(5) 62 63

Kim Clijsters is back! She defeated Oprandi who she lost to last year in the same tournament! :):):) Leading 5-2 in the first set, she proceeded to lose her way and gave the first set to the Italian. However, she held firm to her service games and won without facing a break point in the last 2 sets. Well, Kim is not perfect and need matches to get her rhythm back. So I'm not surprised she lost the first set. Still, it was obvious that grass is not her surface. Not sure what to expect of her in her last remaining tournaments... But I'll miss her when she's gone. :(
