Birmingham & Bad Gastein Day 4 preview

Birmingham:

3rd round:
Casey Dellacqua vs. (5) Jelena Jankovic

Jelena now has a clear path to the semi-finals at least with all the seeds tumbling out. Now watch her mess this up. Casey Dellacqua isn't exactly known for her grass court prowess so as a former champion here, you have to favour Jelena Jankovic. Let's hope she gets a couple of wins here and gain in confidence because when Jankovic's game is flowing, it is a sight to behold.

Pick: Jankovic in 2 sets

(8) Ekaterina Makarova vs. Marina Erakovic

If Jelena has a clear path to the semi-finals, Makarova has clear path to the finals as all the seeds have gone home for the bottom half. However, Erakovic is no slouch on grass. Makarova will have to be careful but she should still win this given her expertise on grass.

Pick: Makarova in 3 sets

Elena Vesnina vs. Melanie Oudin

Elena Vesnina has all the shots but her head is missing. Will she switch on her brain this time against Melanie? The American comeback queen has been making a bit of noise recently by beating some lower ranked opponents. It seems that she's getting used to winning again. Let's see who will crumble first in this battle of the headcases.

Pick: Vesnina in 3 sets

Bad Gastein:

2nd round:
Patricia Mayr-Achleitner vs. (2) Yanina Wickmayer

Battle of the bitches here. LOL... Let's hope for an entertaining bitchy match between 2 of WTA's biggest bitches. Yanina has been in a bit of a slump lately, winning matches but not too many in a row. The problem with her is that her game is so one-dimensional. All her balls come at the same pace. There's nothing to throw the opponent off once she gets used to it. Patricia on the other hand doesn't have a game. So it should be easy pickings for Yanina. The highlight of this match should be the handshake, or rather slap on the hand, when the match ends.

Pick: Wickmayer in 2 sets

(3) Ksenia Pervak vs. Sarah Gronert

Pervak barely escaped her first round encounter and she will face the controversial Sarah Gronert in the second round. Sarah Gronert is born a hermaphrodite, which means she has both male and female reproductive systems. She chose to be a woman but some bitchy players said that this condition gives her an advantage. Well, if she does have an advantage, shouldn't she be tearing through the tour by now? Anyway, Sarah is a tall lass and possesses a big serve. She should trouble Pervak enough. Whether she is ready for the win remains to be seen.

Pick: Gronert in 3 tight sets

Sure win bets: Alize Cornet, Jelena Jankovic
Upset alerts: Stephanie Foretz-Gacon, Ksenia Pervak
