Day 5: Rained out again; Day 6 preview

Birmingham has been interrupted with rain once again and only 1 match has been completed; the unfinished match of Doi vs Foretz-Gacon in which the Japanese won. I guess Jankovic's advantage has been nullified. :/

Results for Bad Gastein:

Singles - Quarterfinals
(2/WC) Yanina Wickmayer (BEL) d. Yvonne Meusburger (AUT) 63 62
(3) Ksenia Pervak (KAZ) d. (Q) Chichi Scholl (USA) 64 61
(7) Alizé Cornet (FRA) d. Estrella Cabeza Candela (ESP) 61 62
Mandy Minella (LUX) d. (8) Johanna Larsson (SWE) 16 62 62

Not much surprises here except for that mini-upset of Johanna Larsson. But that girl lost to Melanie Oudin. So it's amazing that she even made the quarter-finals. LOL...

Match focus for Day 6:

(7) Alize Cornet vs. (3) Ksenia Pervak

Ksenia Pervak continues to win despite her unimpressive game. Her unimaginative game is reminiscent of Caroline Wozniacki, just that Wozniacki does everything better. Cornet has been on a comeback trail after struggling to string wins earlier this year. She has already reached the Strasbourg finals 3 weeks ago. Going by that, Cornet should have the confidence to take out Pervak.

Pick: Cornet in 3 sets

(2) Yanina Wickmayer vs. Mandy Minella

Yanina Wickmayer faces surprise package, Mandy Minella in the semi-finals. Mandy has already taken out 2 seeds, Carla Suarez Navarro and Johanna Larsson. Will Yanina be the 3rd? Well, Yanina has been winning her matches with relative ease and hasn't dropped a set yet. It's hard to see her losing to Mandy. Well, I'm sure Minella will be please with her first appearance in a semi-finals of a main tour event.

Pick: Wickmayer in 2 sets
