Birmingham QF:
(Q) Zheng Jie (CHN) d. (4) Roberta Vinci (ITA) 63 57 64
(8) Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) d. (13) Hsieh Su-Wei (TPE) 36 63 63
Bad Gastein SF:
(2/WC) Yanina Wickmayer (BEL) d. Mandy Minella (LUX) 76(3) 63
(7) Alizé Cornet (FRA) d. (3) Ksenia Pervak (KAZ) 62 62
(Q) Zheng Jie (CHN) d. (4) Roberta Vinci (ITA) 63 57 64
Nice win for Zheng here. Vinci's game would trouble a lot of players on grass but Zheng handled it well. Now Zheng has 6 wins on grass having to play qualifying due to a late commitment. But like I said, the more match practice on grass, the better. Look out for Zheng in Wimbledon.
(8) Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) d. (13) Hsieh Su-Wei (TPE) 36 63 63
Like expected, Makarova marches closer to another grass court final. But it wasn't without a struggle. Hsieh has a quirky game which can be very tricky for players to handle. She doesn't give you 2 balls which are the same pace and can pull the trigger anytime she wants. So this is a good win for Ekaterina.
(2/WC) Yanina Wickmayer (BEL) d. Mandy Minella (LUX) 76(3) 63
No surprises here. Yanina safely advances to the finals of Bad Gastein. It has been a good run for Mandy and I'm sure she won't be disappointed with her semi-final appearance here. Now, she has to concentrate on grass as she has a good serve which can translate well onto that surface.
(7) Alizé Cornet (FRA) d. (3) Ksenia Pervak (KAZ) 62 62
Finally someone takes out the trash. Noticed how all of Pervak's photos all look the same? I've tried searching for more interesting photos of her on the net but all of them look like the photo above. A true bore. Well, another appearance in a final for Cornet. She sure likes the red clay. Should be a good match against Yanina in the finals.
