Second Round
(6) Roberta Vinci (ITA) d. Monica Niculescu (ROU) 63 67(4) 60
Francesca Schiavone (ITA) d. Irina-Camelia Begu (ROU) 62 26 76(8)
Sofia Arvidsson (SWE) d. (WC) Arantxa Rus (NED) 64 61
(Q) Kirsten Flipkens (BEL) d. (Q) Daria Gavrilova (RUS) 75 76(4)
Shockers:
Francesca Schiavone (ITA) d. Irina-Camelia Begu (ROU) 62 26 76(8)
Leading 6-0 in the tiebreak, Begu manages to lose the next 6 points as Schiavone stages her amazing comeback, saving 5 match points in a row. What a choke from the Romanian. This is her best chance to beat a former slam winner but she screws it up majorly. However, credit has to be given to Schiavone. This feisty Italian loves to live by the edge as she also saved a match point against Kirilenko in her first round. Let's see if she can continue her Houdini act against Kim Clijsters.
Tamira Paszek (AUT) d. (8) Daniela Hantuchova (SVK) 64 36 61
After a relatively easy win against Anne Keothavong, Daniela slumps to a defeat against Tamira Paszek. Paszek did absolutely nothing for this year, so losing to her is quite a disgrace. Daniela isn't too lousy on grass, I can only attribute this loss to rust. Better to lose here than Wimbledon.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) d. Christina McHale (USA) 75 36 64Pavlyuchenkova won a match! She beats Wozniacki vanquisher, Christina McHale. So now Pavlyuchenkova > Wozniacki? The former world number 1 continues to be embarassed even though she is already out of the tournament. Quite a letdown from McHale, given that Anastasia has been struggling lately. Shows she still has some way to go before she is consistent enough.
